It’s been a triumphant year for The Royston Club, with the release of their critically acclaimed album ‘Songs From The Spine’, big festival moments including Reading, Leeds and TRNSMT, and seeing their entire UK autumn headline tour sell-out in advance. But there’s still more to come in 2025 from the band, with today’s release of a new video for the single ‘Cariad’. They also share a perfect complement to ‘Songs From The Spine’ with the new ‘Live From Coastal’ EP.
The ‘Cariad’ video focuses on a young woman who counters the day-to-day grind of her job in a cafe by daydreaming of an alternate version of her life, rich with passion and intensity. Those desires are expressed through a performance of fervent physicality, her committed performance matching the heightened emotions of the song. And as she darts across location in Beaumaris, a seaside town on the The Isle of Anglesey in Wales, the sense of place becomes just as much a part of the story as her personality.
The video was directed by James Slater (Sam Fender, Blossoms) and stars Freya Parks (Fiona in Steven Knight’s ‘This Town’).
The Royston Club commented, “Filming the ‘Cariad’ video in somewhere beautiful like Beaumaris felt like a real testament to the album especially as that’s not only where ‘Cariad’ was written, but the majority of the record. Watching James bring his idea to life felt really special and Freya showing such emotion in her performance really encapsulated what we set out to do with the song.”
The ‘Live From Coastal’ EP was recorded late last year at Coastal Sound Studios in Liverpool. It features new stripped-back versions of the lead single ‘The Patch Where Nothing Grows’ and the emotionally-charged ‘Curses & Spit’. It is completed by two intriguing covers: ‘Wichita Lineman’, a natural choice to follow the original album’s closing track ‘The Ballad of Glen Campbell’, and putting their own spin on beabadoobee’s ‘Glue Song’, which resulted in numerous fans requesting an official release after the video was released last year.
Demand for tickets for The Royston Club’s UK tour has resulted in four additional dates, all of which have also sold-out in advance. Limited tickets remain available HERE for shows in Europe. Their first plans for 2026 have just been confirmed with the news that they will perform as guests to Two Door Cinema Club at London’s Crystal Palace Park on a bill that also features The Vaccines and James Marriott.
