Gurriers tear up Rough Trade

No One is Saving Us, But Gurriers Are Leading the Charge
Playing an intimate, packed-out album launch show in Hockley, the band proved that their explosive sound is far too massive to be contained by a record store’s walls. The upstairs floor of Rough Trade Nottingham was hot & sweaty as Dublin five-piece Gurriers delivered a relentless, front-to-back showcase of their phenomenal sophomore record, Nobody’s Coming To Save You.

Stepping out onto the stage, the band wasted no time, instantly detonating into the album’s frantic title track, “Nobody’s Coming To Save You”. Frontman Dan Hoff is a commanding, feral force, driving the political fury of “Party Lines” and the driving force of “Shades” directly down the crowd’s throats. The rhythm section of Pierce Callaghan on drums and Charlie McCarthy on bass anchored the room with a sludgy, mountain-leveling low end on the buzzing menace of “Pins”, while guitarists Ben O’Neill and Mark MacCormack cut through the air with the gnashing, metallic elements of “Today Is Not Enough”.
The set list was perfectly designed to keep the crowd in a state of perpetual motion. The band seamlessly wove in a couple of older, dance-punk favorites, sending the room into absolute hysterics during the siren-wailing madness of “Nausea” and the heavy, pulsating groove of “Des Goblin”. They offered brief moments of structural tension with the addictive guitar loops of “Top Of The Bill” and the ominous, electronic-tinged opening of “Drones”, proving they possess incredible control amidst the calamity.
As the gig careened toward its final stretch, the band leaned back into their newest anthems. The frantic energy of “Nothing Happens Twice” gave way to “Waiting For Fisher”—a bouncy, inherently fun takedown of contemporary nine-to-five life—and the blistering noise-rock of “I Wish I Was”. By the time they closed the set with “Cry Baby” (described by the band as a love letter to guitar riffs), the floor was spent. Gurriers don’t just play a gig; they deliver an absolute, life-affirming exorcism.
