The Dollyrots are Kelly on vocals and Bass and Luis on backing vocals and guitar. They are joined by Simon on drums, as usual for a UK tour. It’s straight into the songs, opening with My Best Friends Hot. There are cheers when Kelly and Luis start talking about the song Brand New Key. It’s an American folk song from the 70s, but lots of Brits know The Wurzles version Combine Harvester, so there’s lots of laughs and Luis sings along and adds ‘ooh aah ooh aah’ along with the audience. If you don’t get the reference, it’s probably because you are young, so don’t worry!
Kelly chatted about how much they all love Nottingham. They went back to The Trip and Kelly was shocked to see ‘The Chair’ didn’t have a warning sign. She tells us she sat in it twice and each time she found out she was pregnant not long after. She tells us that Jaret (from bowling for soup) sat in it and his wife fell pregnant. It must be a powerful chair that needs to carry a warning she muses. As Kelly & Luis are a couple, the tours are always a family affair and their two children joined them on stage. River told a few jokes and showed off his yoyo skills while Daisy sat at the drums and added the ‘bdum tsh’ to the punchlines. The night ended with Because I’m Awesome, which is very fitting because the band absolutely are.
